My mother spent her childhood summers at the lake (my grandfather owned the gift shop, and I think some of the streets are even named after her family!), and we would like to surprise her with a trip for her 70th birthday. Summers were spent at Schroon Lake until my parents bought a house at the Jersey Shore. I missed the adirondacks terribly but have been able to get back often. Mostly to the Saranac Lakes areas. I would love to relocate there permanently. I lived in Alaska for a few years which I loved and find that there is a similarity in the two areas. Friendly people and wonderful environment. I have a gerat need to get back to nature and away from all the traffic and malls which I abhore. Telephones, TV, shopping, traffic....no thank you! Will be back in March 2000.........

Every year my father and I travel up the inlet coming out of wanakena. If I ever was to recomend a canoe/hiking trip for anyone, this would be the place. This is even a good trip for fisherman as well, hitting the right part of spring can really be plentiful.

Great reminders of home. Grew up in Endicott, NY and spent many summers at Schroon Lake. Went to Clarkson to college and son went to Paul Smith's. There is no place like upstate New York, and this site provides an opportunity to visit from 3000 miles away.

Why isn't Water Safari at the Enchanted Forest listed under Herkimer Co? It's the biggest water park in the state. For childrens hikes I'd suggest Moss Lake and Buttermilk Falls. They are both easy and short.

I just returned from camping at KOA. I had the best time there! I even got to see bears right at our campsite! The cabins that we stayed in are amazing! They are the perfect size and you can even turn the heat up if you're cold. I was very comfortable. I hope to return there very soon. It's fun to just sit by the camp fire and share conversation with your family. Thanks for a great vacation!

Just hiked the Safford Pond trail by Big Moose. What a disappontment to find how the trail had been "improved" for snowmobiles. Trail is now at least 30 feet wide and BARREN. Sounds like the DEC is not overseeing thier permits and regulations.

Darol: I've heard that the Adirondacks and Rockies have a lot in common, but when i dragged a friend over Algonquin recently he called it a "ball-buster" and remarked at the ruggedness of the terrain, unlike anyhting he'd done in Colorado or the Sierras. If only we'd been part of VERPLANCK COLVIN's crew! (I doubt we'd last a day.)

Darol: I've heard that the Adirondacks and Rockies have a lot in common, but when i dragged a friend over Algonquin recently he called it a "ball-buster" and remarked at the ruggedness of the terrain, unlike anyhting he'd done in Colorado or the Sierras. If only we'd been part of VERPLANCK COLVIN's crew! (I doubt we'd last a day.), -

I am trying to plan a trip to the Blue Mountain Lake area and I am looking for lodging. The only problem I am having is the places in the area do not have web sites to contact them nor do they have 800 numbers. You need more pictures of the places to stay and web sites for them. Thanks for the map. I just returned from an overnight stay on Raquette River. I launched at Axton Landing and went up river. The ,skeeters are fat and happy. Had a great time in spite of them.
